More and more young people from Kerala, India, are coming to Germany to study or to work in the healthcare sector. Alongside the linguistic and professional challenges, many of them are also confronted with the question of where to find a spiritual home. In a foreign culture and far from their families, they seek support, orientation, and community in faith. As the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. John the Baptist (MSJ), we see it as our responsibility to accompany these young people not only in practical matters but also spiritually. Our youth pastoral work aims to help them find their place in Germany—rooted in faith, strengthened by community, and open to the work of God in their lives. To date, we have already been able to accompany and support 49 young people from Kerala at various stages of their life journey. They are working in different cities and institutions—many in nursing, some in university studies or vocational training. Our support includes personal conversations, spiritual guidance, joint worship services, and regular gatherings. A particularly moving moment in our youth ministry was the spiritual preparation for the Easter celebration, which took place on April 16, 2025, at the Generalate of our congregation. The young people gathered from different regions to attune themselves to the most important feast in the Christian faith. Pater Mathew Kureekattil MSJ, the Superior General of our congregation, personally welcomed the young people and gave them his blessing. His encouraging words and warm presence touched the young people deeply and gave them the feeling of truly being accepted and supported. Pater Charls Thekkethoyyil MSJ then gave a spiritual talk that touched many hearts and inspired reflection. Following this, we celebrated the Holy Mass together, with Pater Majobi Amickattu MSJ as the principal celebrant. In addition, Pater Bineesh Mankudiyil MSJ assisted the young people in receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and imparted the sacramental blessing. For many, this was a special experience of inner renewal and strength—a profound spiritual moment in an atmosphere of joy, trust, and gratitude. The positive feedback from the participants shows us how great the need is for spiritual support and community among these young people. They feel supported and accepted—as part of a larger family of faith. We want to continue on this path in the future and offer young adults from Kerala a spiritual home here with us—a place where they can recharge, grow, and live out their faith. Because even in a new country, one thing remains true: the Lord walks every path with us.
